The revolution will be improvised
by Anshu Asthana
TheLondonUnderground.net is a new on-line magazine and community. We operate in the spaces where artists, squatters, hackers, musical innovators, mystics and party people collide. This is the real London Underground, it's everywhere and nowhere. It's like the matrix, but with fewer guns and more tea.
Interview with Kevin Seven
by Sarah Bush
Organising an event or an exhibition isn't always as difficult as it might first seem, according to Kevin Seven, who has spent the last year curating art exhibitions at no-id, a gallery and performance space in Shoreditch.
Arena Artists @ The Foundry
by Sarah Bush
Weird art, experimental music and improvised poetry readings happen at the Foundry on a regular basis. This is a magical place where people experiment with boundaries, constantly; an interesting and improvised space that stretches our perceptions of what being creative is really all about.
The Dreamer
Extract from a book by Oliver Shuster
'When you wake is just dark. Then there's nothing but swirling dust, and fantastic stories of people travelling so far, but remaining close so that both origin and destination had long been forgotten.
Metamorphosis
Photos by 'the art is in the tea'
'Metamorphosis: a night of transformation by magic and by spirit' happened recently in a disused Victorian pub in Homerton. Entry was via a candlelit doorway down through a disorientating labyrinth formed of fabric, leading into the gentle chaos of a bar full of sculptures and suspended platforms.
Biodegradable Street Art
By Anshu Asthana
Are you too skint to pay for oil paints and canvas but still want to make art? Don't despair. Try our favourite low cost method for getting your creativity out there. It's called Biodegradable Street Art and it involves little more than a box of chalk and (optionally) some fruit. It's Graffiti Art's half assed, cash strapped cousin and it's coming to a high street near you.
Utrophia
By Chris Irish
Deptford's answer to The Wombles, The Utrophia collective are a group of artists and musicians living and working together in a converted factory space in South London. Behind an unmarked red steel gate on Greenwich High Street, the Utrophians have spent the last five years engaged in a free-wheeling, semi-freegan lifestyle.
A trip to Stonehenge
By Sarah Bush
The summer and winter solstices at Stonehenge are the the only two times a year when the public can wander freely right inside the stones. Although the police presence is huge it's pretty much one huge party with drumming, dancing and stick waving in the middle and more sober meditation further out.
Mobile Clubbing
Photos by Andreea Gurban
Mobile Clubbing was founded in 2003 by artists Ben Cummins and Emma Davis. Here are some pictures from the event in the turbine hall of the Tate Modern.
A Guide to Flyering
By Anshu Asthana
theLondonUnderground.net threw a few parties in Camden last year. We had no experience, no money really, and lots of other things to do. But you know how it is, you get drunk, wander into a venue, ask to put a regular night on, they say yes, and there you are, wondering what just happened.
