Location

The area we occupy is by the main boating lake in Regent's Park. The nearest entrance is towards the end of Park Road on the outer circle opposite the mosque. If you are coming from Baker Street undergorund station you turn right and walk up Baker Street following the road up as it becomes Ivor Place and then Park Road.) From here you walk past the children's boating lake and boating cafe on your right, cross over Hanover Bridge and then follow the main lake on your right round until you see the treehouse structures and other spaces.

From Camden or Portland Place follow the path with the stream on your right towards the Baker Street side of the park until you get to the end of the Boating lake, where you should see us on your left.

There is also a map on the website.

The site itself is not on a road and is on flat/slightly irregular but firm grassed ground. There is a cement path running through it and the treehouses and other spaces are on grass which can be accessed by wheelchair. One of the treehouses has quite steep stairs and has a rope railing. The other larger treehouse has two sets of stairs with sturdy handrails and has a disabled access lift made from wood that operates by a cantilever pulley system. Upon completion the lift will enable wheelchair users to access platforms also with assistance and supervision.

There is level access to the service inside and outside the park. All the main doors and access points to the park are always open. The lighting levels are low. There are well kept pathways around the park which are made up of easy and moderate slopes. Some areas and paths may require more assistance than others.

The nearest underground station is Baker Street, and the nearest bus routes are 13, 82, 113 and 274.

Baker Street Station provide alternative services to improve access for disabled customers and welcomes assistance dogs.

Parking

This venue does not have its own car park. There is parking available however on the street on the inner circle marked Blue Badge bays located at different points throughout the park. Blue Badge holders can park in any bay free of charge. Depending of course on where you park these are approximately 500 metres from the site. The park have allowed us vehicle access onto site for picking up and dropping off but not for permanent parking. Special needs vehicles can therefore drive directly up to the site and then park within a short distance.

For more details on how to get a blue badge and who can apply please follow this link:

Facilites

There is two disabled toilets with wheelchair access available within 100 metres next to Hanover Bridge which is accessible from the path. They are not unisex, so there is one male and one female toilet. They are signposted around the park, although not currently from our site. Although if you ask one of the treehouse folk or any of the volunteers they will be able to direct you there. It is usually locked but we are able to unlock it whenever necessary. It can be used for the whole duration of our opening hours.

The door opens outwards and is locked by a twist lock.

The dimensions of the adapted toilet are 120cm x 168cm (3ft 11in x 5ft 6in).

There is not a lateral transfer space.

There is not a functional emergency alarm available.

Disposal facilities are not available in the cubicle.

The coat hook is not within 120cm (3ft 11in) from floor level.

The Site

There are visible handrails on both treehouses but no where else which cover the full distance. The only obstructions in the treehouses themselves are the tree trunks. There are an assortment of areas on the ground with a variety of small structures or materials that are clearly visible (see the herb garden, sound garden and round table).

There is sufficient room for groups and space for individual private space. If very much there will be a queuing system, although we do not anticipate this will happen very often, and if it does it will operate on a password system which will be distributed from beneath the galleries.

There are some spaces to sit around site, including chairs, logs and wooden bench structures. There is space to move around these, and they can be easily moved around to provide appropriate room. All structures are outside.

Two have covering although most are not, so in some ways temperature and conditions are dependent on the weather.

There is no electricity available on site and thus all announcements and talks are done aurally without the aid of visual means or amplified technology.

Pricing and Availability

Entrance to the site and into any activities, performances, talks or workshops is all free of charge and encouraged. This includes any friends, family, carers and personal assistants. There is a sign up for most activities online if you wish to guarantee a space at a workshop or talk, but there will be spaces always available as well for people who come down on the day.

If you sign up to a workshop or talk, or would like to, you can send an email regarding potential accessibility requirements and preferences so you can be aware in advance if you would like to participate. We have some BSL qualified interpreters who can possibly help out so please let us know in advance if you would like to request one for your visit and we can try to arrange this for you.

Other things

We will have water available on site.

We hope to have some assisted performance materials available such as audio books, loop induction and braille, but as we are non-funded and are set up through donations we do not have any at at present, but are very much hoping to have some of these possibly donated or lent for the duration of the project.

The publicity material will be mostly in black and white, but if it is not clear please refer to the website or speak to the crew on site. There are some signs dotted around the site concerning the spaces, site information and what is on. They are painted on a variety of boards or written on blackboards. Again if the font, contrast or size is not clearly visible please ask some of the treehouse folk who will be around the site. Regent's Park staff have received disability awareness training and at least 4 members of the treehouse gallery team have worked with people with disabilities. Assistance dogs are very welcome in the park, on the site and in the treehouses.
